Fund to improve crowd safety across live music and nightlife to launch next month

A new fund has been established to enhance safety training and fan care within grassroots organizations.

The Lost Angels Fund has been initiated by the social utility app BUDDY, with backing from the Night Time Industries Association (NTIA), the Association For Electronic Music (AEFM), the Electronic Music Alliance (EMA), and the Entertainment Services and Technology Association (ESTA).

This fund will provide direct assistance to families affected by tragedies related to crowd events, while also offering grassroots safety training programs and awareness campaigns throughout the live music sector.

The funds launch follows closely after the documentary Trainwreck: The Astroworld Tragedy premiered, which examines the tragic crowd crush at Travis Scotts Houston festival in 2021, resulting in 10 fatalities and reportedly injuring over 4,900 individuals.

NTIA CEO Michael Kill stated: “The most powerful moments in the night-time economy often occur in alternative spaces—clubs, warehouses, grassroots venues—places that enrich our culture but present real-world challenges. In these high-energy environments, safety isn’t a bonus—it’s essential.

"At the Night Time Industries Association, we’ve long advocated that safety must be integrated into the culture, not treated as an afterthought. That’s why I wholeheartedly support BUDDY’s Lost Angels Fund—a progressive initiative that prioritizes fan care, education, and wellbeing.

"This is the type of action our industry requires—practical, passionate, and grounded in the real experiences of nightlife. From an intimate gig to a festival main stage, everyone deserves to feel safe, supported, and informed," he continued. "Let’s elevate the standard. Caring for our communities isn’t just good practice—it’s essential for safeguarding the future of night-time culture.”

AEFM COO Finlay Johnson remarked that the fund will deliver "education and resources for electronic music fans," emphasizing that "industry-wide advocacy and awareness are vital to support fans, artists, and promoters alike."

“In electronic music, many of the most culturally significant events occur in temporary, unconventional, or underground spaces. These settings are often complex and high-capacity, necessitating a thoughtful, proactive approach to safety for both artists and fans," he added. "Regardless of the environment, safety should be an integral part of the culture we create, rather than an afterthought.”
