One arrested, one hospitalised following police raid on New York nightclub

One individual has been hospitalized and another taken into custody after a police raid at the Mood Ring nightclub in New York this weekend, reports Brooklyn Magazine.

Officers from the New York Police Department (NYPD) entered the Bushwick venue around 12:09 AM on Monday morning in response to noise complaints.

Mood Ring was hosting a joint Puerto Rico Day weekend after-party with the neighboring Bossa Nova Civic Club, featuring performances from Payola, Mano Santa, Dmore, and Christian Mártir. A flyer promoting the event indicated it would run from 10 PM to 4 AM.

Footage shared by freelance journalist Talia Jane shows multiple officers navigating through crowds outside the venue, with Jane alleging that "they grabbed, threw people to the ground, specifically femmes. A taser is heard at one point."

DJ BOJAQ, who was reportedly present at the venue during the incident, told Brooklyn Magazine: “We had no clue it was this crazy until the white shirt cops stormed inside and told the owner to shut it down."

Mood Ring promoter Lancer Casem stated that the venue has "had noise complaints before," but the NYPD "have never dealt with it like this." She claims that officers "stormed the dancefloor and kicked everyone out of the club."

“No one was fighting or doing anything wrong. Mood Ring last year was actually crazier because they had a full patio. Something is so off this year… I’m anxious for pride now, to be honest," she expressed to journalist Arielle Lana LeJarde.

Mixmag has contacted representatives for the NYPD and Mood Ring for statements.
