Go catch some real criminals!

Over 200 people attended an illegal rave at a quarry in Somerset over the weekend.

The unlicensed event took place at Asham Quarry near Frome on Saturday, June 7, and continued until Sunday morning. The music was reportedly turned off at around 9:30 AM, hours after police arrived at the scene.

Local authorities arrived at the site around 1:20 AM following complaints from residents, where they found more than 200 people gathered at the partys peak, along with approximately 100 cars parked in the area.

According to Avon and Somerset Police, 13 individuals were arrested after the rave was shut down, and five van-loads of music equipment and staging were confiscated. The last attendees left the site by 2 PM on Sunday.

In a statement shared by local police on Sunday (June 8), Chief Inspector Becky Wells-Cole stated: “Due to the quarry having a single public highway entry and exit point, heavy foliage and treelines, with zero visibility owing to the time of night, our response needed to consider the safety of our officers and members of the public, in shutting down the event and dispersing those seeking to attend this illegal event.”

In response to Avon and Somerset Polices statement on Facebook, locals expressed their support for the illegal ravers, urging the police to “go catch some real criminals.”

“Is there a branch in the police that specializes in illegal raves? Do they proudly call themselves the fun police?” one local inquired.

“I expect most of the people that complained forgot that they used to attend events like this themselves in the 90s and early 00s,” remarked another.
