Berlin community radio station Refuge Worldwide has initiated a crowdfunding campaign to secure its broadcasting future.

On its GoFundMe page, the team behind Refuge Worldwide stated that the station needs €50,000 to cover costs as it plans to move from its current location at Oona Bar in Weserstraße to a new space in Neuköllns Böhmischer Platz.

Although Refuge Worldwide opened its new location in June 2024, it requires funds to make a permanent relocation from Oona Bar. This move is deemed essential to manage expenses during a time when arts organizations in Germany are facing rising rents and a "political climate that is hostile toward independent spaces and grassroots culture."

In a statement posted via Instagram, the team described the campaign as an "open call for support" to help "secure the future of the radio station."

"Over the last few years, we’ve built a space where artists, collectives, and people of all ages can come together to share music, stories, and knowledge, broadcasting live from Neukölln to the world," they added.

"Providing 300+ workshops, transmitting over 12,000 radio shows, and coordinating 3000 hours of teaching - with contributions from many incredible individuals, Refuge Worldwide has become part of the fabric of this city," the statement continues. "The truth is, we need help to keep this going."
