Anish Kumar & Baalti launch collaborative alias Stunt Doubles

Anish Kumar and duo Baalti have joined forces on a new collaborative project called Stunt Doubles.

Their debut EP is out now on Method 808, showcasing a playful and surrealist exploration of Indian pop culture and deep cut references.

Speaking about the project, the three members said: “We were both mutual fans of each other, and the collaboration came about quite naturally from our love of crate digging. The tracks came together super quickly - out of manic 30-minute beat battle power sessions while locked away in Berwick-upon-Tweed, and ended up sounding quite cinematic, like they could soundtrack old movie clips and action sequences. So we really leaned into worldbuilding in that vein, creating a new fictional ‘band’ separate from our solo projects and playing theatrical, weird, and over-the-top characters.”

“The ‘Stunt Doubles’ name and visuals came from our experiences of Brown people getting mixed up for each other all the time, and we really pushed that idea to a bit of an extreme.”

Pretty Girl helms new instalment of fabric presents mix series

Pretty Girl is the latest artist to step up for the prestigious fabric presents mix series.

The Australian artist has crafted a mix featuring compatriots such as RONA., Sleep D, Guy Contact and SWIM, as well the likes of Palms Trax, Burnski and ⁠Otik.

Speaking about her track ‘Hahaha’ which features, the London-based producer said: “Over New Year’s I was listening to lots of early-mid 2000s electro and was captivated by the powerful synth lines that defined that era. I do make a lot of leftfield electronic music that generally gets labelled as “emotional”, or “ethereal”, so when I get to make a straight-up banger it’s a lot of fun. I think I showed a different side in ‘Hahaha’; it was really fun to let go of any restraint and focus on the song just being as big and fun as possible.”

Of the mix, she adds: “It’s kind of like a plate of food — you want lots of colour, and everything to go well together.”

JASSS announces new album ‘Eager Buyers’

JASSS is releasing her third album ‘Eager Buyers’ via her new music, AV, art, radio show and events platform AWOS.

The seven-track LP grapples with contemporary malaise via trademark impactful experimental music.

“Whether you buy into the dream of capitalism or not, on a subconscious level, many people that lived through the 90s and 2000s had capitalist hope from the 80s and 90s drummed into them”, says JASSS. “It was a promise of something that never came true. We put our faith in a mirage, and now we’re left in an existential void, struggling with a very real collapse.”

Seven Davis Jr. has released a new seven-track album ‘Dont Crash Out Challenge’ via Secret Angels.

Merging styles spanning such funk, electronica and indie dance, it also sees the Texas-born, California-raised artist show new range to his vocals.

Said to capture both “intimate vulnerability and festival-ready euphoria”, both tracks layer Rasmussen’s vocal prowess with Jordan’s high-octane production. “We spent two days deep writing, talking about everything, playing our favorite songs to each other,” Rasmussen says.

Paris’ Mac Declos has dropped a new single titled ‘Sexiness’ ahead of the release of his second studio album, ‘MTY-013 « Nothing Stands Still »’.

The new single lands on Mama Told Ya in the lead-up to his new album, which is due to arrive on September 20.

London DJ collective, label and party series SlothBoogie is celebrating its 15th anniversary with a new compilation album featuring Demuja, The Revenge, Philippa, and more.

The 15-track record encompasses the spectrum of house and disco, featuring both SlothBoogie regulars and rising stars.

Giggs’ ‘Let em have It’ to be released on vinyl for first time to mark 15th anniversary

UK rap legend Giggs will release his seminal album Let em have it on vinyl for the first time to mark its 15th anniversary — with the special wax edition landing in shops on September 26

Originally released on June 21 2010, tracks such as Look What the Cat Dragged In, Hustle On and ‘Matic ensured Let em have it became a key record in the history of UK rap.

Available on either yellow or black vinyl, the double-vinyl release includes a bonus disc featuring collaborations with B.o.B, Mike Skinner, Shola Ama and more.

Dot Major and ABSOLUTE. share second single under NIGHT manoeuvres project

NIGHT manoeuvres - the new collaborative project from London Grammars Dot Major and ABSOLUTE. - have released their second single ‘Resurge’ via fabric Records. It follows their debut single, Genesis, released last month also on fabric Records.

“We knew the first time we met that our second meeting would be at the studio," the pair said. "What we didn’t know was the immediate trust and openness there, which would take us on a musical journey to a realm neither of us had discovered before. Worlds of light and dark came together to create the start of something we’d never imagined.”

Jianbo shares details of debut mixtape Everything For the Family

Chinese-Vietnamese-British Jianbo will release his debut mixtape, Everything For the Family on July 18 via UK-based collective and label Eastern Margins.

To tease the project, Jianbo has released the first single from Everything For the Family: Suya, featuring Lewisham-based rapper Namani.

Todd Terry remixes Trimtones new single Fire In The House

Legendary producer Todd Terry has created both a remix and edit version of Trimtones house track Fire In The House, available now via London-based imprint Love to Be.

Trimtone, AKA Tony Walker and Marc Dennis, first released the single last month — but now, Terry has injected some signature billowing bass and sliding percussion.
