A fire erupted at the Berlin nightclub Renate in the early hours of this morning, June 19.

A reporter for Berliner Morgenpost was present at the scene, capturing footage of the venue ablaze.

The local publication reports that the fire started shortly after 2 AM in the front garden of the club, where at least one gas cylinder was discovered. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. One man was inside the building at the time, in his studio above the club, and managed to escape unharmed.

28 firefighters from the Berlin Fire Department responded to the incident, extinguishing around 100 square meters of wooden fencing and bringing the fire under control within approximately an hour.

The fire was primarily confined to the garden of the venue, also known as Salon Zur Wilden Renate, although flames did spread to the building entrance, necessitating the use of a chainsaw for access. For the most part, the building is expected to remain unaffected.

The area has been cordoned off with tape stating "Halt, Police. Do not enter crime scene." A police spokeswoman confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.

Last year, the long-standing nightclub announced its plans to close permanently at the end of 2025 after 18 years of operation.

The club recently indicated that “the future of Renate remains uncertain” while announcing plans for a flea market to sell off club tech, merchandise, and memorabilia.
