The only authentic beach club left in Ibiza: Petition launched to reverse ban on DJs at Sa Trinxa

A petition has been initiated following reports that local authorities in Ibiza have prohibited DJ performances at the long-established beach club Sa Trinxa.

In a recent post shared on Instagram, resident Jon Sa Trinxa stated: “Ibiza cancelled. No more DJs at Sa Trinxa”.

A subsequent message on his Instagram story clarified that “DJ sessions have been suspended” at the club due to “heavy force”, but assured that the club will continue to “have music”. He expressed gratitude for the communitys understanding and loyalty.

In response to this news, a petition was launched yesterday with the aim of “reversing” the decision, which has already gathered over 2,000 signatures.

“Sa Trinxa has hosted music performances since the 1970s, occupying a special place in the hearts of the islands residents and visitors alike as one of the longest active beach clubs in Ibiza,” the petition states.

“With no credible reasons, this cherished tradition has come to an abrupt halt. This battle isnt just about preserving our musical tradition, but its also about fighting for our right to cultural diversity and authentic expression.”

The petition urges authorities to urgently “reconsider the decision and to open up a discussion” with the public, “so as not to lose our last authentic beach club”.

“To preserve this vital piece of Ibizas music history, please sign this petition and support our cause for music liberty at Sa Trinxa,” it emphasizes.

Back in 2017, the San José municipal town hall informed 16 of its most popular beach clubs, including Bora Bora and CBBC, that they were no longer allowed to host DJ sets or live performances.

This crackdown was an attempt to reclaim the beaches after locals and tourists expressed concerns over a lack of public spaces on the island’s shores.

No further details regarding the reported ban have been confirmed as of yet. Mixmag has reached out to Jon Sa Trinxa and local authorities in Ibiza for comment.
